What is a nymph?

A nymph is a mythological female spirit typically associated with nature and the Greek god of nature, Pan. They are said to be beautiful and ethereal creatures, often depicted as young maiden-like figures with long hair, delicate features, and flowing garments. Nymphs were believed to inhabit various natural environments such as forests, mountains, and bodies of water like rivers, lakes, and springs. They were seen as the protectors of these environments, and were thought to have the power to punish those who violated them. Nymphs were often associated with love and desire, and many ancient myths feature nymphs falling in love with mortals. In some traditions, nymphs were immortal, while in others they could die or be transformed into other beings. The concept of nymphs has been popularized in literature and art throughout history.
